The ME180 is a three-way, mid-sized floorstanding coaxial speaker that expands the ME Geithain line of passive high-end speakers. This three-way design features two high-efficiency 10-inch bass drivers and a high-frequency array composed of three vertically aligned 1-inch dome tweeters. Without a waveguide, this configuration achieves a sensitivity of 90 dB. Combined with linearized impedance, the ME180 pairs exceptionally well with tube amplifiers, ensuring minimal power compression and nonlinear distortion even during fortissimo passages. The system's directivity has been optimized for listening distances between 3 and 6 meters, delivering natural imaging in both stereo and multichannel modes. Its ported enclosure ensures excellent transient fidelity for precise, clean bass reproduction down to a cutoff frequency of 35 Hz. When placed near a wall, the ports can be sealed to prevent excessive low-frequency boost. While traditional waveguides in front of tweeters help control directivity, their internal horn surfaces often cause short-time reflections that result in unavoidable "sonic coloration." ME Geithain breaks this convention by using a tweeter array design without horn attachments meant to increase sound pressure level. With the tweeters coaxially aligned directly in front of the midrange system, the signature low-coloration music and vocal reproduction—and the immersive "soundstage proximity" listeners crave—are preserved. The ME180 can be adjusted to suit the acoustic conditions of your listening room. In modern living rooms with long mid-range reverberation times, it offers either power boost in the presence range or attenuation at 200 Hz. Thanks to these structural improvements, the ME180 delivers seamless sonic compatibility with all other products manufactured at the Geithain factory.
